The Best Rap Lyrics Ever!!!

August 31st, 2007

When Men were Men and Chuck D was Pissed

I was watching some videos on tv the other day and I thought to myself “Man, Rap sucks!”  I used to love rap back in the day, but it just sucks now.

Question: When did it all go wrong? Who’s to blame? What’s the problem?

Answer: The biggest problem with rap today is one thing, Happy Rappers. That’s why there’s no good rap any more.  These guys are like a baseball player after they sign the huge contract. Complacent, full of themselves, soft.

Chuck D unleashed the most ferocious lyrical assault on the clogged up brain cells  of  the masses

Let me tell ya ’bout a time when it was all very different…… cue the dream sequence music.

Let’s set the wayback machine to 1988; back when rap was “underground” and rappers were pissed off from trying to rise above the oppression of mainstream media.  George Bush was President (not W, his daddy) and Hair Metal was the “pop music” du jour. Real men knew that size mattered when it came to your “portable” music system.

What’s the Point to Unlocking the iPhone?

August 28th, 2007

Wow, I just unlocked my iPhone. Now what am I going to do with it?

I keep seeing all of these headlines for “iPhone Unlocked” on every blog in the lands.

Who gives a damn?

Am I missing something here? What is the benefit of unlocking the iPhone? It only works on GSM networks and the last time I looked (U.S. only) there are two AT&T and T-Mobile. So what have you achieved? Well, sure, you could cancel your AT&T contract and move over to T-Mobile.

Here’s the catch: You still have to buy out of your AT&T contract ($175 early cancellation fee). You still have to pay for a new contract with T-Mobile. ($29 – $79 a month + Voice Plan)

So, exactly who have you rebels hurt by unlocking the iPhone?

Apple already got paid when you bought the phone.
AT&T got paid when you signed the contract.
You pay cancellation penalty to AT&T and they don’t have to provide the service.(Get money, don’t provide service, sounds pretty good.)
T-Mobile gets paid.

Hottest Women in Tech

August 27th, 2007

Who are the “Hottest Women in Tech?”

It used to be that the very few women that were into Tech were though of as, let’s just say “smart” looking. Not usually very pretty and certainly not “Sexy”. Recently, however, that seems to be changing in a big way. I have noticed a wave of really smart, interesting, funny, and yes SEXY women involved in tech. Not Vanna White-esque show girls or Vegas trade show “booth babes”, but real legit geeks who love tech and know their stuff. When you mix two things that I love; Technology and Sexy-Smart women, it’s no wonder that I’m logging so much computer time.

If you remember the Friends episode when Ross and
Rachel made their “Lists”
of celebrities that they were allowed to hook up with. Well, here is my list of geek “exceptions” that I share with my wife.

Disclaimer: This is a commentary on how the world of tech has an influx of women who are both SMART and Sexy. It is meant to pay tribute to the beautiful and smart women of tech. I sincerely hope this is seen as a compliment, not sexist or misogonist. And hopefully a little fun too.

Criteria:
Of course, I can’t start a list without qualifying the criteria for entry. All candidates have to REALLY be into Tech, not jus play the role of a geek chick in TV or Movies. They must be on Technology related show, or podcast or blog.

How to Learn Anyting: Fast, Fun, and Free!

August 21st, 2007

Great Sites to Learn New Tricks

The world is moving and changing at a rapidly increasing pace. There are so many things that we all need to learn just to keep pace. At work, school, home… our finances, technology, health, etc. Nobody knows everything, and even if you did, there would be 10 new things to learn tomorrow.

Where do you turn to learn the things you need to know? Where else, but our good old friend, the interwebs. That’s right, the old series of tubes is good for more than just porn checking stock prices, horoscopes, and sports scores.

Just about anything that you might need to learn is out there in a smart, concise tutorial somewhere. But where?

Well that’s what we’re here for. Here are some of the blogs that I use regularly for help.

Movie Review: Superbad = Superfunny

August 19th, 2007

Superbad = A Supergood Superfunny Trip Down Memory Lane

Rating: 4.5 out of 5
Best Part: Dick Drawing (or any scene with McLovin)
Worst Part: The Bloody Leg
Actor(s) to Watch: Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Bill Hader, Seth Rogan, Christopher Mintz-Plasse
Most Memorable Quote:I am McLovin” or “The funny thing about my back is, it’s located on my c**k.”

Well, it was a rainy Sunday and the wife and I were both feeling a little blah so we decided to blow the afternoon at the movies. We definitely could have used a laugh and we were not let down. No, I won’t spoil the plot, but what a fabulous walk down memory lane.

Check out the trailer and some other video clips.

The setup seems like every teen quest for sex and booze movie, but it is so much more. This was such a painful reminder of my dork best friend and I in High School that I couldn’t stand it. The two kids are very real kids. Not very handsome, sexy, or cool. (slightly over the top, but real) They have these “theories” and “schemes” to get the broads and the booze that all seem to go comically awry. The idiot side kick that seems to suck, the slightly too hot love interests, and the bully that gets his in the end. But that’s where it diverges from the route. The kids in the movie are all a little awkward and unsure of themselves. They all seem to know that they are dorks. They also look like the kids that I see walking to the High School in my town.

10 Worst TV Spin-Offs of All Time

August 17th, 2007

Well, After my last post, you knew this was coming. You can’t have sunshine without rain.

Hit TV shows that start to grow a little long in the tooth or have a star looking to end their career branch out on their own often resort to the ritual suicide of the spin-off. While we all know this usually ends ugly, there are those rare exceptions that end in quality TV.

Criteria for a “Terrible” spin-off:

  1. Original show must have had a respectable run
  2. Spin-off was very short lived 1 or 2 seasons
  3. The Spin-off is roundly dispised by the old fans
  4. Cameos, that are painfully embarassing. (Helpful, not mandatory)

Caveat: Judging a Terrible Spin-Off is a lot like former Supreme Court Justice PotterStewart’s take on pornography “hard-core pornography is hard to define, but I know it when I see it.” So too is a bad spin-off.

When keepin’ it real goes wrong.
10. MTV Road Rules: Or for that matter every “Reality TV” show that ever followed the first season of “The Real World”. How can such an original, interesting, entertaining show spaw such a legacy of crap? Not just a crappy spin-off, but a crappy genre (reality tv) full of crappy shows.

Original Show: MTV The Real World
Years on TV: 1995 – Present
Cameos: Real World vs. Road Rules? (Does that count as a cameo?)

10 Best TV Spin-Offs of All Time

August 14th, 2007

Hit TV shows that start to grow a little long in the tooth or have a star looking to end their career branch out on their own often resort to the ritual suicide of the spin-off. While we all know this usually ends ugly, there are those rare exceptions that end in quality TV.

My criteria for a “Successful” spin-off:

  1. Original show must have had a respectable run.
  2. Must be a NEW show, not merely a remake of an old show.
(Sorry, no Battlestar Galactica, Degrassi or the like.)
  3. Takes an established character(s) from an existing show
and gives them their own show (which usually sucks).
  4. Spin-off must survive for at least tree or more years.
  5. The Spin-off must have some level of critical support.
  6. Cameos, we love to see our old friends drop in from
    time-to-time. (Helpful, not mandatory.)

Caveat: Many of my winners are from the 70’s and 80’s, because well, that’s probably the last time a good spin-off occurred.

10. Tie – CSI: Miami and CSI: NY: Yeah, that’s a cop out (no pun intended), but they are both pretty
indistinguishable. They’re good spin-offs of the original CSI (Crime Scene Investigation). The shows that coined the term “My crazy girlfriend is like CSI.”
Original Show: CSI
Years on TV: 2002 – Present and 2004 – Present Respectively
Cameos: They’re all over the freakin’ place

9. Law & Order: Criminal Intent: Another cop show spin-off, but it’s a good one. Can you turn on cable without seeing an episode of numbers 9 and 10? Who knows, this show may spin off it’s own version of the West Wing.
Original Show: Law and Order
Years on TV: 2001 – Present
Cameos: Yup, lot’s of ‘em.

Post Secret Short Movie

August 13th, 2007

Got a Secret to Tell?

Post Secret is a project where a guy asked people to write their “secrets” on a post card and mail them to a PO Box. The secrets were to be compiled into a book. Well as the thousands of secrets poured in, the founder discovered that the post cards not only had fascinating secrets, but they often had “soulful artwork” that brought the secrets to life.

The first book “Post Secret” was a brutally riveting glimpse into the secrets that ordinary people carried (and unleashed) around with them. My wife and I have our copy under our coffee table and everyone that comes over can never put it down. I challenge you to read it and not see little pieces of themselves sprinkled all over the pages.

Live Every Week Like it’s Shark Week!

August 1st, 2007

It’s the Most…
…Wonderful Time…
…of the Year

You know how there is that one time of the year (Christmas) when everyone
acts just a little bit different. You know they are more thoughtful, kind,
nice, generous. They go to church for a change. You always hear people
say, “I wish people would live like this all year long.”

Well, for me, it’s a different time of year. It’s a time when some people
(the cool ones) are a little more exciting, intense, smart, aggressive.
It’s a time when people are more punctual (especially around 9 p.m. EST, 8
p.m. Central) about getting home and settled in.

Yes, that’s right, SHARK WEEK!

I would just like people to consider the thoughtful wisdom of Tracy Jordan (30 Rock) toKenneth the Intern.

Remember, Live each week like it’s Shark Week!

Learn it, know it, live it!
